Battle of Arnhem Commemoration 2022

On Friday 16 September we will commemorate the Battle of Arnhem with a private commemoration service at the Eusebius Church, a ceremony and wreath-laying at Airborneplein (Berenkuil), the Bridge to Liberation event and the March over the Bridge. This year a large part of the commemoration evening will be open again to the general public.

Commemoration at the Eusebius Church and Airborneplein (Berenkuil)

At the Eusebius Church and Berenkuil we will reflect on the victims of the Battle of Arnhem. Together, we will also remember the evacuation of our city, when approximately one hundred thousand citizens of Arnhem were forced to leave their homes. The evening will begin with a private commemoration service at the Eusebius Church. This will be followed by a silent march to the Berenkuil, where the commemoration ceremony and wreath-laying will take place. Members of the public will be welcome to watch the commemoration from the ring above the Berenkuil.

This year there will once again be a March over the Bridge. Led by the Royal British Legion TN, pipers and drummers will walk across the John Frost Bridge from the south side to the Berenkuil. This year the silent march, the commemoration ceremony at the Berenkuil, the March over the Bridge and Bridge to Liberation will be open again to the general public.

Bridge to Liberation

As is tradition, Bridge to Liberation will return to the Rijnkade in 2022. This year performances will be provided on the floating stage by Wulf, Laetitia Gerards, Jim Bakkum, Ben Saunders, Phion and Introdans. Winfried Baijens will introduce films that tell stories about the impact of the Battle of Arnhem in the Airborne Region. Read more about Bridge to Liberation.
