New book: No ordinary man, Albert Spring (25 juli)

This is the story of Albert Edward Spring, a humble country man, and his family and friends, who lived all his life in the small village of Winwick in Huntingdonshire come Cambridgeshire except for the World War II years. He was effectively the family bread winner from the age of 7 having lost his father in World War I when he was 14 months old.
From 1940 through to 1946 Albert served his country as an original Commando, the and then as a Paratrooper seeing action in Egypt, Lebanon, North Africa, The Mediterranean, Palestine, Italy and at the Battle of Arnhem, through which time he lost many of his comrades and friends.
It is said “he walked amongst giants and he must have been good because they did not suffer fools gladly.”
As a country boy he was that Poacher turned Gamekeeper of some repute who was married to Olive for over 50 years raising a family of four boys as well as finding time to write and publish
three books.

In 1991 he returned to the Netherlands when it turned out he was a long lost hero of the Battle of Arn hem. There, he was reacquainted with old friends and fellow heroes from the Dutch Resistance, the United States Air Force and the British Army, many of whom who he had last seen in September 1944. Their bravery was beyond compare. The legacy with the families involved all those years ago continues to this day.
When Albert died it was said ” … you would have thought it was the funera l of a past Prime Minister or member of the Royal Family, it wasn’t, it was only Albert’s funeral.”
Albert gave so much and expected nothing in return. He said he was an ordinary man doing his duty. His story suggests he was rather more than that.

Hence the title, Albert Edward Spring – No Ordinary Man.
